Collision Repair Tokoroa Trusts
Mark Jones Paint and Panel repairs collision damage, from minor bumps to major structural impacts, for vehicle owners across Tokoroa and the Waikato region.
Available Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
What Collision Repair Actually Involves
Collision repair covers both structural and cosmetic restoration after impact, from a minor carpark bump to a serious road accident, hail or storm damage, or a vehicle an insurance assessor has referred for repair. Mark Jones Paint and Panel in Tokoroa handles collision repair for vehicles ranging from a scuffed bumper to major structural damage.
The process runs through assessment, a written quote (WINZ quotes are available), disassembly, structural straightening, panel replacement or reshaping, priming, colour matching with Sherwin-Williams paint, spray application, curing, buffing, and a final inspection before the vehicle goes back to you.
Cost and complexity depend on a few things: how much of the damage is structural versus surface-only, whether airbags deployed, panel availability for older vehicles, how many panels are affected, and whether the paint is metallic, pearl, or solid.
What separates a quality repairer from a poor one comes down to assessing structural damage before starting cosmetic work, using the correct primer and paint system, never skipping the curing stage, and matching paint in natural light. Being approved repairers for IAG, FMG, and AA insurance means the repair standards are assessed and agreed by those insurers, not just by us.
Before booking anywhere, it's worth asking a few questions: Is the shop MTA-certified? Are they approved by your insurer? Do they use a matched paint system? Will they give a written quote before starting?
Why Our Credentials Matter for Your Repair
Approved Repairer — IAG · FMG · AA Insurance
Mark Jones Paint and Panel holds Motor Trade Association (MTA) Collision Repairer membership and Collision Repair Association (CRA NZ) membership. The business is an approved repairer for IAG, FMG, and AA Insurance, meaning claims can be processed directly through the shop without you managing paperwork between parties. Sherwin-Williams is our primary paint supplier, a professional-grade automotive coating system used by approved repairers across New Zealand. In our experience, the jobs that go wrong are almost always the ones where the structural damage was underestimated at the quote stage.
"The jobs I see go wrong out in the industry are almost always the ones where someone cut corners on the assessment. We strip the panel back properly before we quote, because a number on a page that doesn't reflect the actual job doesn't help anyone. If we find something we didn't expect once a panel comes off, we call you before we do anything else."

How the Collision Repair Process Works at Mark Jones
Step 1 — Contact and Initial Assessment: call or visit the workshop at 37 Campbell Street, Tokoroa. Mark Jones assesses visible damage and identifies whether structural inspection is needed before quoting.
Step 2 — Written Quote: a written quote is prepared. A WINZ-compatible quote is available for eligible customers, and insurance customers should bring their claim reference number.
Step 3 — Insurance Liaison: for IAG, FMG, or AA customers, we liaise directly with the insurer where possible. Confirm your insurer's process at the quote stage.
Step 4 — Disassembly and Damage Assessment: affected panels are carefully removed once the repair is booked. Hidden structural damage is documented and a revised quote issued if required before work continues.
Step 5 — Structural and Panel Work, Priming, Paint and Colour Matching: structural straightening and panel reshaping or replacement is carried out, then the surface is primed and colour matched using Sherwin-Williams paint before spray application.
Step 6 — Curing, Buffing, Final Inspection and Handover: paint is fully cured before buffing. The completed vehicle is inspected, and you review the repair at handover before any concerns are addressed.

Collision Repair — Questions We Hear Often
How long does a collision repair take?
That depends on the extent of the damage. A straightforward single-panel repair with no structural involvement typically takes two to four days once parts are in and the job is scheduled. Repairs involving multiple panels, structural straightening, or parts sourced from outside the region take longer. We give you a realistic timeframe at the quote stage, not an optimistic one. Will my insurance company cover the repair at your workshop?
Mark Jones Paint and Panel is an approved repairer for IAG, FMG, and AA insurance. If your policy is with one of those insurers, the process is straightforward. If your insurer isn't on that list, contact them first to confirm their approved repairer requirements, then call us. In many cases we can still carry out the repair.Do I need to get multiple quotes before booking?
Some insurers require two or three quotes before approving a claim. Check with your insurer before booking. If you're paying privately, you're free to compare quotes. We provide written quotes at no charge. What matters most is that the quote covers the full scope of damage, including anything that may only become visible once the panel is removed. If the damage is limited to the surface with no panel distortion, scratch repair may be the more appropriate service. What paint system do you use, and will the colour match?
We use Sherwin-Williams paints for all refinishing work. Colour matching is done from the vehicle's factory colour code and verified before application. Every vehicle has some degree of colour fade over time, so we assess the surrounding panels before matching. Our goal is a result where the repair blends with the rest of the vehicle, not just matches the code. Can I get a WINZ quote for collision repair?
Yes. If you are working with Work and Income New Zealand to cover vehicle repair costs, we can prepare a quote in the format WINZ requires. Bring your case details when you come in, or call ahead so we can confirm what documentation you need. This service is available to eligible customers alongside our standard quote process. How do I know the structural repair is done properly, not just the surface?
This is the right question to ask any repairer. At Mark Jones Paint and Panel, structural work is assessed and carried out before any cosmetic or paint work begins. We don't cover surface damage over unresolved structural issues. If hidden damage is found after disassembly, we document it and contact you before proceeding. You don't discover problems after the fact.
